Houston -- Junior pitcher Morgan Mikulin tossed a two-hitter and senior catcher Casey Everitt scored the game's only run on an RBI single in the first inning as Sam Houston State defeated Houston Baptist 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference softball contest at HBU Diamond.

The victory ended a four-game losing streak for Sam Houston (12-14). Mikulin (5-5) gave up a single to Kali Malpass in the second inning and a double to Sara Corocan in the seventh. Mikulin faced 24 batters in seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Shortstop Hailey Wiginton opened the contest with a walk, was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Whitney Wilson then scored on Everitt's single. Sam Houston picked up only three hits the rest of the game with no Bearkat runner reaching second base. Amy Brown was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Bearkats.

Houston Baptist (11-12) was led in the pitcher's circle by Kristi Malpass who struck out six Bearkat batters.
