SHSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
Mission Statement of SHSU SAAC
The Sam Houston State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is dedicated to providing the opportunity for student-athletes to have a quality academic and athletic experience that will culminate in graduation from Sam Houston State University. This committee represents a commitment from the student-athletes, coaches and administrators to achieve excellence in the following manner.
- To improve communication between student-athletes in different sports, as well as with coaches, administrators, the student body and the public.
- To work with the athletic administration enhancing NCAA and Conference affiliations.
- The continued collaboration in the relationship of the Athletic Director, Senior Women’s Administrator, NCAA Faculty Representatives and the Athletic Council.
- By providing a voice for student-athletes to express at all levels of the university their suggestions and concerns regarding the athletics programs, to review support of individuals and their teams, to assist the athletic department in establishing policies and to recommend changes for improving the student-athletes experience.
- To create the opportunity for student-athletes to have a positive athletic experience, to develop professional skills and work habits, to facilitate peer involvement, to fulfill the responsibilities that are part of the privilege of being a student-athlete, and to express pride in SHSU and team achievements.
- To obtain recognition and encouragement from the student body, the faculty, the administration, alumni and the press for the individual and team accomplishments of student-athletes in all sports.
- To continue enhancing the environment regarding the background knowledge of the of history of the athletic department, monitoring the current state and establish the role of contribution, giving back once student-athletes graduate.
