Our Mission
The Sam Houston Letter Winners Association honors the rich history of Bearkat Athletics while building a firm foundation for the future. Our mission is to bridge the gap between generations and strengthen connections with alumni student-athletes to enhance the operations of the association to support the 18 varsity sports currently representing Sam Houston.
Every milestone achieved by today’s student-athletes stands on the shoulders of the alumni who paved the way. In turn, our current Bearkats are establishing the footprint for the generations of student-athletes yet to come. It is the circle of life for loyal Bearkats.

To foster these vital ties between the past, present, and future, the Association works directly alongside the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), engaging current student leaders from all 18 varsity sports.

Priority Initiative: The SH Letterwinner Jacket
In conjunction with the Department of Athletics, we proudly fund and provide the official SH Letterwinner Jacket. When a current student-athlete meets the letter policy criteria for the very first time, their jacket is provided entirely through the generosity of the Association.

The SH Letterwinners Association requests all former student-athletes from our university's AIAW, NAIA, and NCAA eras to update their contact information.
A modern, accurate database streamlines alumni communication, simplifies the organization of team reunions, and elevates major events like the Hall of Honor. Crucially, it also allows each of our coaching staffs to maintain meaningful, lifelong connections with their former players.

Hall of Honor & Distinguished Service Award
Hall of Honor
The SH Letterwinners Association Hall of Honor recognizes and celebrates the legacy of former student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. Inductions are reserved for those whose distinguished accomplishments during their time at Sam Houston left an indelible mark on our athletic programs.
ACCESS THE SAM HOUSTON HALL OF HONOR
The SH Letterwinners Executive Committee serves as the voting panel for all selections, evaluating a comprehensive ballot representing all sport affiliations.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Student-Athletes: Eligible 10 years after their final collegiate competition. Selection is heavily weighted on but not limited to: All-American honors, national or regional awards (NCAA, NAIA, AIAW), and all-conference selections.
- Coaches & Administrators: Eligible based on outstanding, transformative contributions to the university while employed in their roles. Current coaches and administrators are eligible for consideration.
Distinguished Service Award
The SH Letterwinners Association Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals who embody exceptional leadership, strong moral character, and substantial service to Sam Houston Athletics.
This honors those who back their passion with dedicated service to Sam Houston Athletics and inspires others to follow in their footsteps.
