The Sam Houston State women's basketball team signed Clarke Davis to a National Letter of Intent today announced head coach Brenda Nichols. Davis is the Bearkats' first signee for the 2009-10 recruiting class.
“We are thrilled to have Clarke join our Bearkat family,” said Nichols. “We know we needed help on the inside and Clarke's athleticism and ability will be a huge asset for us. She is highly skilled, can score, defend, and can hit the boards.”
Davis, a 6-0 forward from Mansfield High School, was the District 4-5A Newcomer of the Year and a first team All-District selection. She was second on the team in scoring with 9.4 points and led the Lady Tigers with 5.6 rebounds per game under Coach Natasha Stewart.
Davis moved to Mansfield for her senior season after playing her first three varsity seasons at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where she was a two-time All-District selection and helped lead her team to the Class 3A State Championship her sophomore season.
“Clarke has really gotten the best of both worlds having played high school basketball in both Tennessee and in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She has won a state championship in Tennessee and played in arguably the toughest area in this state, in the same district and town that produced the state champion this year. Those experiences and her commitment to the game will be an asset for us,” added Nichols.
Davis also excels in the classroom, as she garnered TABC Academic All-State, TGCA Academic All-State, and Academic All-District honors.
