HUNTSVILLE – Despite 25 points from
Mikayla Woods, the Sam Houston women's basketball team could not overcome a woeful third quarter in a 75-70 loss to Texas State on Saturday evening at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Woods led all players with her performance, which saw her hit four 3-point baskets and haul in nine rebounds; however, 10 of those points came in the third period when she scored all but two buckets for the Kat (0-2)s as Texas State (2-0) erased a 6-point deficit in the first three minutes to take the lead for good.
Sam Houston led by as much as 12 points in the opening half, but for the second straight game struggled to make it to the locker room.
Kaylee Jefferson joined Woods in double figures with 10 points, six boards and a team-high six assists, while
Madelyn Batista just missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Sam Houston will next be in action on Wednesday, November 16, when it hosts Jarvis Christian at 6:30 pm at Johnson Coliseum.
