Sam Houston has hired veteran ticket manager Russell Durrant to lead ticketing operations for all athletic department events. Durrant will fill the newly created position of Associate Director of Ticketing Operations.
Durrant joins Sam Houston with more than 20 years of experience in the collegiate and professional ticketing industry, most recently serving as the Assistant Athletic Director of Ticket Operations and Customer Service at University of Houston.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to bring Russell on to head up our ticket operations," said Russell Martinez, SHSU Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Branding. "As we make this move to FBS football, it was important for us to have someone in place who has handled events on a much larger scale. We look forward to having Russell's expertise in this area."
While at the University of Houston, Durrant was responsible for the ticket operations at all events, including UH Athletics and external events. In his role he worked with both sales and development assisting with customer services and fan experience. He was the ticket operations liaison for the football and men's basketball staffs while supervising three full time ticket staff members.
"I'd like to thank Bobby Williams, President White, Jeff Harris and Russell Martinez for the opportunity to work at Sam Houston," Durrant said. "I look forward to meeting fans and enhancing their game experience as we transition to Conference USA. This department has a history of excellence on the field and I can't wait to be part of this success moving forward."
Prior to joining Houston, Durrant worked as the Director of Ticket Operations for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, the AAA baseball affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. There he managed a ticketing staff of 20 for all Dodger events as well as special events hosted by the Dodgers, including Monster Truck and Winter Fest.
Durrant, a 2002 graduate of Texas A&M University, has extensive experience in ticketing at the collegiate level. He started his career as assistant ticket manager at Rice University. He also worked at SMU, Colorado and Baylor before being named Associate Director of Ticket Operations at Oklahoma State.
In his stints at Houston, SMU, Rice and Baylor, Durrant operated and managed the Paciolan ticketing software, which was implemented at Sam Houston in 2020.
"Not only has Russell worked at the highest level of college athletics, he's also very familiar with the ticketing software we are currently using," Martinez said. "All of those factors made him the obvious choice for this position."
