HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's tennis team fell to Jax State, 4-1, on Saturday in its final match at the McAdams Tennis Center, the program's home site since 1986.
Next year the netters move to a new home at the Chuck & Wanda Beckner Tennis Center one block away at 515 Bowers Blvd. across from the Don Sanders Baseball Field.
Since 1986, the McAdams complex has provided a home not only for Bearkat women's varsity tennis but also for college instruction, area youth clinics, and major tournaments. Twice the McAdams Complex hosted the Southland Conference Tennis Championships (in 1989 and 1998).
Saturday in this season's home finale, a 2024 Bearkat squad missing key players due to injuries fell to Jax State 4-1. The tennis squad now stands 7-11 for the spring. The Kats will finish their regular season on the road with a pair of matches in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and the Conference USA postseason tournament in Miami May. 3
Bearkat senior Paula Cerda provided Sam Houston with a straight sets singles victory that marked the 53rd individual win in her four-year college career. She won 6-1 6-2 at the number position over Polina Ramenskaja.
Jax State earned the victory by winning the doubles point and the number three, four and six singles contests. JSU upped its record to 11-7 for the spring and 2-0 in Conference USA action.
