HUNTSVILLE – Undefeated UTSA shut out Sam Houston 4-0 for the Roadrunners' eighth consecutive victory of the 2025 season Friday afternoon at the Beckner Tennis Center.
UTSA's (8-0) Valeria Sanchez and Ekua Youri topped Jacqueline Schnabel and Nayuma Subba 6-4 while Castaneda Guerrero and Aoka Nagasawa rolled up a 6-3 victory versus Aaliyah Hohmann and Sara Sadadinovic to clinch the doubles point and give the Roadrunners the early lead.
The Roadrunners won each of the top three singles in straight sets to clinch the dual-match victory. Letizia Corsini defeated Subba 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Ekua Youri then topped Schnabel 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Valeria Sanchez posted a 6-4 6-4 win over Adithi Venkatakrishnan in the No. 3 spot.
Combined with the doubles point victory the three singles matched clinched the dual match as the final three singles contests were stopped.
"With matches against Rice, Texas A&M and UTSA in a row, we've faced three outstanding teams in the last week," Sam Houston head coach Rob Hubbard said. "Our young squad has battled and this experience is going to help us down the line."
Sam Houston travels to Beaumont Sunday to face another former Southland foe as they take on the Lamar Cardinals at 1 p.m. The Kats will follow that tilt with home non-conference matches against Abilene Christian on Feb. 16, Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 21 and Eastern Michigan on Feb. 28.
