HUNTSVILLE — The Bearkats dig the longball.
Sam Houston erupted for four home runs, two off the bat of catcher
Bella Perez and first baseman
Elia Hebel, to even a Conference USA series with a 8-4 over Western Kentucky on Saturday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
A night after dropping a difficult 9-5 decision in 12 innings, the Kats jumped on the Hilltoppers early when Perez ripped her first home run of the game, a solo shot to right-center field.
Jenny Robison, who hit two bombs Friday, and
Samantha Graeter drew walks to set up a three-run blast by Hebel to break the game open.
Kinsey Hobbs and
Kyla Heine both singled in the bottom of the second to get Sam Houston cooking again. Perez then cleared the bases with another shot over the wall in left to put the Kats up 7-0.
The game was delayed for a few hours because of weather, but when it resumed in the fifth, Hebel launched an opposite field solo home run to right for a key insurance run.
That was plenty of run support for
Tiffany Sanchez. She went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs with five strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The two teams will play the rubbermatch on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
