HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston surged past UTEP with a 6-2 victory Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (23-21,11-7 CUSA) used a six-run fourth inning — highlighted by three home runs — to complete the series sweep of the Miners.
Morgan Holliday started the power surge with a solo shot to center field. After Kinsey Hobbs was hit by a pitch and Elia Hebel drew a walk, Jenny Robison crushed a three-run homer to give Sam Houston a 4-2 lead.
Bella Perez followed with a walk, and Brodie Quinlan capped the inning with the Bearkats' third home run.
Abigail Young (6-5) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. She struck out six and allowed four hits.
Makenzie Jenkins entered in the top of the fourth after starter Tiffany Sanchez allowed two runs on three hits with no outs. Jenkins struck out two of the three batters she faced to escape the jam.
Sanchez recorded two strikeouts in her start.
The Bearkats tallied 11 hits and committed no errors. Robison led the team with three RBIs.
Sam Houston heads to Liberty for a CUSA series beginning Thursday. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
