HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston walked off Louisiana Tech in eight innings with a 3-2 victory Sunday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (27-27, 14-13 CUSA) secured a spot in their first CUSA tournament appearance with the win over the Bulldogs.
Allie Saville smashed her second home run of the season over the left-field wall to seal the victory.
LA Tech starter Alyssa Martin retired 18 straight Bearkats before Elia Hebel broke through with a double in the seventh inning.
The Bulldogs brought in Allie Floyd to pitch, and Jenny Robison wasted no time, ripping an RBI double to put Sam Houston on the board.
Brodie Quinlan followed with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game and keep the Bearkats alive.
Louisiana Tech scored two runs in the first inning, but Abigail Young shut the door the rest of the way. She pitched all eight innings, allowing just two runs on three hits.
Sam Houston will be the No. 6 seed in the CUSA tournament where they will face the No. 3 seed on Wednesday at noon.
