Cross country to host first meet of season

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston men's and women's cross country teams will begin the 2025 season at the Bearkat Opener on Friday at Kate Barr Ross Park.
  
The Bearkats will be competing against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Our Lady of the Lake University and North American University. The women will run on a 4,000-meter course and the men will compete on a 6,000-meter course.
 
Last season, the men's team finished fourth at the CUSA Conference Championships with an average time of 24:54 just behind Jacksonville State. The women's team placed ninth at the championships with an average time of 23:31.
 
The Bearkats will also run next week at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station on Sept.13. Two weeks later, Sam Houston will run at the Clifton Gillard Invite at Prairie View on Sept. 25. Bearkats will close out the season before the conference championships at Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station on Oct. 17.
 
Conference USA Championships will be held in Huntsville, Alabama on Nov. 1.
