Bearkats Collect One National Letter of Intent

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State men’s basketball team received one National Letter of Intent for the 2019-20 season from high school standout Pierce Hellums, announced by head coach Jason Hooten on Thursday.
Pierce Hellums – G / 6-2 / Tomball, Texas / Concordia Lutheran HS
A native of Tomball, Texas, Hellums enters his senior season at Concordia Lutheran with an impressive 2,050 points in his first three seasons with the Crusaders. Voted the district MVP, Hellums led his Crusader squad to a state championship with a stellar 43-1 overall record. As a junior, he averaged 20.5 points per game, four rebounds per game, 4.2 assists per game, as well as 3.5 steals per game. He shot 45 percent beyond the three-point arc, going 159-352, and was a solid 85 percent from the free-throw line.

He definitely fits our program and our culture. Pierce is a very versatile athlete and a big-time winner.”
