Tayler Gray returned to the Bearkat coaching staff in 2019 and will be entering her 15th season with Sam Houston in 2024, both as a student-athlete and a member of the coaching staff.

Gray, the daughter of head coach Brenda Gray, spent a short stint as an assistant at UT Arlington before returning to Huntsville in 2019. She has spent her life around Bearkat volleyball and was the starting setter when the Bearkats claimed the 2012 Southland Conference championship.

She played for the Kats from 2010-13 and also showed off her skills on the softball diamond as a dual-sport athlete during that time. Gray was a two-time all-SLC performer on the volleyball court, earning second team all-league honors in 2012 before being named to the first team as a senior in 2013.

She led the Kats to a combined 38-22 record in both 2012 and 2013, going 29-7 against Southland foes in that time, while having a hand in 71 wins and helping Sam Houston to a 49-16 league record during her Sam Houston career. She closed finished her collegiate career with 2,352 assists, a mark that still holds a spot in the all-time top 10 at Sam Houston.

Gray then joined the coaching staff as a volunteer coach in 2014 and has helped the Bearkats make deep runs in the SLC Tournament in four of the last six seasons. Since becoming a part of the program in 2010 she has been a part of nearly 200 Bearkat victories and helped direct Sam Houston to the league tournament each year, including at least the tournament semifinals six times.
