Cole stands as one of only three Bearkat basketball players who have earned NCAA Division I All-America honors. In 2003, Cole led Sam Houston to both its first Southland Conference tournament championship and NCAA Division I Regionals appearance. He earned conference “Newcomer-of-the Year” honors after scoring 458 points as a junior in 2002. His senior season he was voted as both Southland Conference “Player of the Year” after leading the Kats to their second league regular season crown with a 17-3 record. Cole was named as Southland Tournament “Most Valuable Player” and earned both All-Conference and All-Tournament honors for the second year in a row. Donald's 526 points as a senior gave him a career scoring mark of 984 points. That ranks as the third highest two-year total by a Bearkat.
