McLeod was a two-sport letterman, earning All-Southland recognition in both men's basketball and track-and-field. A four-year starter from 1993 to 1996, he ranks as Sam Houston's 15th all-time leading scorer with 1,156 career points. He also stands 11th in Bearkat career rebounds (558). As a four-time All-Southland competitor in the high jump, McLeod holds the school record both indoors and outdoors. His outdoor best performance of 7' 1.75” made him an NCAA provisional qualifier in 1997
