Hall of Honor
Betts came to Sam Houston on a women's basketball scholarship. However, it was in track-and-field where Betts left her mark, becoming the second Bearkat woman to earn All-America honors in track and field. That honor when she placed fifth at NCAA Nationals a place javelin throw of 173 feet 10 inches. Helping lead the women to their first Southland Conference outdoor titles in 2005 and 2006, Betts earned gold medals at conference meets three times. She was an All-Southland performer three times indoors and four outdoors. She was named as Outstanding Women's Field Events performer at both the Southland Conference indoor and outdoor meets in 2006.
