Shayla ranks as the third leading scorer in the 46-year history of Sam Houston women's basketball. When she completed her career in 1999, she stood as only the fourth woman to total more than 1,000 points. A starter from her freshman year in 1995 until her final season in 1999, Shayla played in 113 games scoring 1,487 points, an average of 13.2 points per game. She also ranks second in career steals with 316 and fourth in Sam Houston women's basketball career rebounds with 851 and blocked shots with 111. She earned second team all-league honors in 1996 after ranking seventh in the league in both scoring and rebounding. She led the Southland and ranked 10th nationally in steals as well. As a junior in 1998, she ranked second in the conference in steals and averaged 10.7 points per game. She completed her career in 1999 by earning first team All-Southland honors after scoring 286 points as a senior.
