HUNTSVILLE -- Lydia Gonzales scored 17 points and as the Bearkats gave first place Texas State-San Marcos all they could handle in a 70-54 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearkats led twice in the second half and had the game tied five other times. They trailed by three points with 6:35 to play. But Texas State's offese took off scoring 15 of the last 17 points of the game.
Brittany Brooks also scored in double figures with 11 points.
Texas State got a bulk of its points from two players, with Joyce Ekworomadu going for 21 and Ashley Cole scoring a game-high 28 points.
The Kats limited Texas State to 37 percent shooting, but the Bobcats scored 21 points from the free throw line.
The Bearkats will be on the road this week, taking on UTSA on Thursday.
