
Kendra Spivey earns Academic All-SLC

Kendra Spivey, junior outfielder from Colleyville for the Sam Houston State Bearkats, has been named as a first team selection on the 2008 Academic All-Southland Conference softball team.
Four other Bearkats were named as honorable mention Academic All-SLC. Each member of the Academic All-Southland squad must have a 3.00 cumulative or higher overall grade point average and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Spivey holds a 3.86 overall grade point average majoring in biology. She is a Sam Houston Student Athlete Advisory Committee Officer and is a nominee for SLC representative to National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She also has served as a Bearkat Mentor for HISD elementary school students and is the chair of SAAC Safe House Goods Drive.
Spivey was the fourth-leading hitter for Sam Houston State softball team in 2008. She played in 56 games, starting 36 contests.
Recognized as Academic All-Southland honorable mention were first baseman Amy Brown, outfielder Lauren Burns, pitcher Brandi Crnkovic, and outfielder Amanda Lindsey.
Brown, a sophomore from Cypress, holds a 3.02 grade point average majoring in mass communications. She has been a two-year starter at first base. She hit .296 for the 2008 Berakats. Her total of 468 put outs this season ranks as the second highest Bearkat single season total in softball history.
Burns, a sophomore from College Station, has posted a 3.27 grade point average majoring in kinesiology. She started 40 games for the Bearkats in 2008.
Crnkovic, a junior from Caldwell, holds a 3.02 grade point average majoring in kinesiology. The right handed pitcher compiled a 2.82 earned run average, struck out 190 batters in 201 innings of action and totaled 15 victories and five saves in the circle. She was an All-Southland Conference honorable mention selection in 2008.
Lindsey, a sophomore from Richmond, has compiled a 3.65 grade point average with a major in academic studies. In 37 games in 2008, she posted a .257 batting average.
