Bearkat Classic - The 2004 SFA game

The 2004 matchup between the Sam Houston State Bearkats and Stephen F. Austin remains as one of the best games played in the rivalry. The Bearkats entered the game ranked No. 7 in the country and the Lumberjacks carried a No. 12 ranking.
In front of a capacity crowd at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches, the two teams gave the fans a game they would remember.
The Bearkats came out of the gates firing, with Dustin Long hitting Jason Mathenia on the first offensive play for the Kats.
There were four lead changes in the second half, and the Kats sealed the 31-28 victory when Steven Hagler blocked a field goal with 30 seconds left to play for the win. Long had a huge day passing for the Bearkats, completing 20-of-36 for 361 yards. Mathenia was the go-to guy, grabbing six passes for 184 yards and two scores. Bernard Campbell also had a pair of touchdown catches.
