Sam Houston student-athletes are invited to find out what job opportunities await them after they receive their diplomas and walk across the stage at Johnson Coliseum.
Â
The Sam Houston Student-Athlete Academic Services team is partnering with the Career Success Center to host the second annual Bearkat Athletes Get Hired Career Fair to help people get their foot in the door for the next stage of their lives. The event will take place on March 30 from 3-6 p.m. in the Lowman Student Center White Ballroom.
Â
The career fair is expected to draw 20-25 potential employers in areas such as financial services, education, construction, government agencies and marketing and advertising. These employers are eager to connect with student-athletes because of their skills in leadership, time management and teamwork — all areas they have experience in while competing for Sam Houston.
Â
"Many of our students are excited to attend this event as it provides valuable opportunities to build connections for their future careers," said Allison Horn, SHSU Athletics director of success. "With the demanding schedules they maintain as student-athletes, we are proud that our athletic department prioritizes time for them to engage in experiences like this. The transferable skills they've developed through athletics prepares them to make an immediate impact in the workforce."
Â
This year's fair will allow current Bearkat student-athletes to hear from someone who knows what to expect when college is over. Former Sam Houston softball player Jenny Robison, who graduated in May 2025 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, will be in attendance this time around as an employer representing Denton Claims Consulting.Â
Â
The Career Fair is just one of the many programs Student-Athlete Academic Services provides within the Career Development program. SHSU student-athletes have attended workshops to receive resume corrections and professional headshots to prepare them for the fair.
Â
They also also attended a financial literacy presentation in February that covered topics like budgeting, savings and investing, credit and taxes.
