Demons are coming to Sam Houston State on Halloween night this Saturday.
It's the Northwestern State University Demons that visit Bowers Stadium Saturday Oct. 31 for a 6 p.m. Southland Conference football contest.
The event marks the 11th time at Sam Houston State has played football on Halloween.
To get into the spirit of Halloween, the Bearkats will be hosting a Halloween Costume Contest at the game. All kids who wish to enter must enter the game at the north end of Bowers Stadium under the scoreboard.
Costumes will be judged upon entrance and winners receive a Bearkat prize package.
Sam Houston State has won six of its previous 10 games on Halloween.
Twice the Demons have been Sam Houston's Halloween foe. The Bearkats won 34-7 in 1987 in Huntsville but lost to Northwestern State 38-10 in a Thursday night Fox TV contest on the road in 2002.
The Bearkats are unbeaten 2-0 at Bowers on Oct. 31. Besides the win over the Demons in 1987, Sam Houston defeated Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 31 in Huntsville 34-23 in 1992.
Other Halloween victories came over Southwest Texas in 1931 by 6-0 score, over SFA in Nacogdoches in 1964 (21-8 fina) and in 1992 (34-23) and against Howard Payne in 1970 and 1981 by scores of 27-7 and 28-17, respectively.
Oct. 31 losses came at East Texas in 1942, at Southwest Texas in 1959 and at McNeese in 1998.
Saturday's contest that will be televised to a three-state audience by the Southland Conference TV network. Fans in the Greater Houston area can watch on KBTU Channel 55 The Tube.
The telecast marks Sam Houston's second appearance this year on Southland Conference TV network. The Bearkats' season opener with Western Illinois opened the 11-game 2009 package for SLC TV.
Sam Houston has been featured on regional cable or network TV telecasts 29 times since moving up to the NCAA Division I level.
