153 Bearkats named to SLC Academic Honor Roll

A total of 153 student-athletes from Sam Houston State University's 16 varsity athletic teams have been named to the 2008-09 Capital One Bank Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
The honor roll recognizes student-athletes from the 12 Southland Conference member institutions who maintained a minimum 3.00 grade point average.
Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
Sam Houston State placed 84 student-athletes on the honor roll for 2009 spring semester sports (track and field, baseball, softball, basketball, golf and tennis) and 69 student-athletes from 2008 fall semester sports (cross country, volleyball, football and soccer).
A total of 1,458 student-athletes across the league were named to the honor roll. McNeese State totaled 154 student-athletes (84 fall, 70 spring). Sam Houston produced 153, followed by Stephen F. Austin 146, Southeastern Louisiana 144, Northwestern State 138, Central Arkansas 130, Texas State University-San Marcos 126, Texas-Arlington 102, Texas-San Antonio 98, Nicholls State 94, Lamar 88 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 85.
