Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, tied for second place in the Southland West Division with a 4-1 league mark, visits Johnson Coliseum Saturday for a 2 p.m. women's basketball contest with Sam Houston State.
The Bearkat women are tied for fourth in the West with a 2-3 Southland record. For the season, the Islanders stand 12-6 while Sam Houston is 5-12.
The Kats have won two of their last three games, defeating Texas State in San Marcos 85-81 and defending Southland co-champion UT-Arlington in 77-75 in overtime last Saturday. Sam Houston lost to West Division leader Lamar 86-68 Wednesday night in Beaumont.
"Our kids are battling every game," Sam Houston head coach Brenda Nichols said. "We're getting great leadership from our seniors and we're excited about another home game Saturday with Corpus Christi."
A&M-Corpus Christi is led by 5-9 junior guard Jade Davis who ranks No. 7 in the conference in scoring with 14.3 points per game. The Islanders' Adrienne Scott, a 6-1 forward, is adding 11.9 points per contest.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live on KHVL 1490 AM in Huntsville

Smith is scoring 12.6 points and leading the Kats with 7.4 rebounds per game. Alexander adds 11.5 points per contest.
Sam Houston's fourth senior is forward Therese Hager who came to Huntsville as a junior college transfer last year and provides the Kats rebounding and defensive talent inside.
