Women's basketball hosts Lamar on Think Pink night

The Sam Houston women's basketball game begins a two-game home stand Wednesday when the Bearkats play host to the number one team in the 2010 Southland race.
The Lamar Cardinals come to Johnson Coliseum for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Wednesday is "Think Pink" night at SHSU women's basketball. "Think Pink" is an initiative to increase awareness and education about breast cancer and breast cancer research.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support for the cause of fighting breast cancer.
Bearkat fans attending Wednesday will have the opportunity to donate money that will benefit the Y Me foundation and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There will also be educational information available at the entrance to Johnson Coliseum.
Lamar enters Wednesday's game with 19-5 season record and 9-1 Southland Conference mark. Three Cardinals are averaging in double figures with 5-4 Jenna Plumley leading the team averaging 15.0 points , 6-1 forward Kalis Loyd adding 13.5 and 5-11 guard Darika Hill 11.5.
Sam Houston is led by three seniors who are scoring in double figures with 5-4 guard Brittany Brooks (13.5), 5-11 forward Whitney Smith (12.3) and 5-5 guard Ray Alexander (11.5).
Smith and Brooks both have now entered the Bearkat women's 1,000-point career club. Smith ranks No. 9 in SHSU career scoring with 1,079 points. Brook moved into the 1,000-point club with her first basket of the Nicholls victory Wednesday and now stands No. 11 all-time at Sam Houston with 1,034 points. Only once before, in 1982, have two players from Sam Houston reached the 1,000 point career mark in the same season.
Lamar won the pair's earlier meeting this year in Beaumont 86-68. The Cardinals led from wire to wire, going up by as many as 18 points in the second half. Smith scored 17 points in the game to lead Sam Houston.
Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on KHVL 1490 AM in Houston and on the internet at www.gobearkats.com.
