First place UTA downs tennis team 5-1

The Mavericks remained tied for first place with Northwestern State in the Southland Conference standings with their perfect 8-0 league mark. UTA is 8-4 for the season. Sam Houston stands 5-2 in Southland action and is 6-8 for the season.
Playing without their number one player Federica Denti who is out with a injury, Sam Houston had to play each of its players a position higher than normal. Tatyana Postnikova, Sheridan Currie, Nadya Dudbyanskaya and Cally Woerner all lost in straight sets at No. 2 through No. 5 singles.
The doubles point was not played due to rain.
Sam Houston State travels to San Marcos to play Texas State in an 11 a.m. match Saturday.
