
Bowersox, Ferguson named Southland Scholar Athletes

Sam Houston State seniors Jordan Bowersox and Anna Ferguson have been named Capital One Scholar Athletes by the Southland Confernece.
Both Bowersox (football) and Ferguson (volleyball) were Southland All-Academic selections this past season.
Bowersox was a two year starter at offensive line for an offense that ranked No. 6 nationally in total offense in 2008. He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and the Golden Key Honor Society. He was also named the 2010 SHSU Student Athlete of the year, COSIDA All-District, Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors All Star Team, Presidents List, Deans List, Southland Conference Commissioners List and Two-time Academic All-Southland.
Ferguson ranked No. 4 in Southland Conference in kills and No. 10 in hitting percentage this past season. She was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi Education honor society. Ferguson was named to the Presidents List, Southland Conference Commissioners List, SHSU Student Athlete of the Year, 2009 First Team Academic All-Southland selection, First Team All-Southland middle blocker, three-time Southland Volleyball player of the week.
The Southland Conference annually recognizes the outstanding male and female student-athletes from each of the league's member institutions. Student-athletes must be a letterwinner with a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have completed at least two years of intercollegiate competition at the school from which he or she was nominated. The student-athletes were selected by their respective institution administrators.
The conference began selecting this award at the conclusion of the 1996-97 season.
