FRISCO -- The Southland Conference has approved the appointment of new administrative officers to direct the league's governance groups during the 2010-12 term, with Bobby Williams among the new appointees.
Effective July 1, Williams, the SHSU Director of Athletics, will serve as president of the Conference's Advisory Council. Brad Teague, athletic director at Central Arkansas, will fill the vice president's position. Hsing-Wei Chu, faculty representative at Lamar, will continue as secretary-treasurer.
"This is an honor to be able to serve the Southland Conference," Williams said. "I look forward to this opportunity and hope I can bring some leadership and help the Southland continue to successfully move forward."
The Conference's Advisory Council, consists of institutional representatives, faculty athletic representatives, athletic directors and senior woman administrators.
The league's Board of Directors will be led by new chairman James Spaniolo, president at UT Arlington, over the two-year cycle, and Stephen F. Austin State President Baker Pattillo will serve as vice chair. Pattillo will also be scheduled to serve a chairman during the 2012-14 term.
"The Southland is fortunate to have outstanding campus leaders interested in the future well-being of the Conference, its member institutions and the approximately 3,600 student-athletes we serve," league commissioner Tom Burnett said.
