A native of Allentown, Pa., Thomas directed Sam Houston to a come-from-behind victory over rival UTSA with two baskets late in the game that sparked an 18-8 run in the final seven minutes.
Thomas recorded a career high with 18 rebounds and six blocked shots against the Roadrunners, both of which made school history.
The 18 rebounds are the most by a Sam Houston women's player since 2001 and the six blocks are the third highest game total in school history.
The win is the Bearkats second in a Southland opener in the past five seasons. Also the victory represented the first time Sam Houston has posted back-to-back victories in its series with the UTSA Roadrunners since the 1999 season.
Thomas leads the Sam Houston women in rebounds this year, averaging 10.5 a game. She is the team's second-leading scorer with 14.2 points per contest including 11 double-figure performances.
The sophomore ranks seventh in the Southland Conference in scoring and second in the league in rebounding.
The award marks the second time this season a Sam Houston Bearkat was earned Southland women's basketball Player of the Week honors. Sophomore Britni Martin of Conroe was voted the award in November.
The next action for Sam Houston will be a road game with UT-Arlington Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Texas Hall in Arlington.
