
Kats play host to Islanders Saturday at 2 p.m.

Outscoring their Southland Conference opponents 73.0 points to 59.8, the Sam Houston women's team looks to continue its winning streak Saturday afternoon when the Bearkats play host to A&M-Corpus Christi.
Sam Houston and McNeese State are the only two unbeaten teams left in the young Southland race. Both are 4-0 and lead the West and East Divisions, respectively.
The 4-0 start represents only the second time in Sam Houston's 24 seasons in the Southland the Kats have started their league campaign with four wins. The 1998 Bearkat women won their first five Southland contests before suffering a loss.
Sam Houston stands 10-8 for the season. The Bearkats boast three players scoring in double figures with Britni Martin averaing 15.9 points, Sequeena Thomas 14.8 and Chanice Smith 11.3.
A&M-Corpus Christi enters Saturday's game with a 2-15 record. The Islanders are 0-4 in Southland play. TAMUCC is led by Adrienne Scott, a 6-1 senior, with 12.4 points a game and Lauren Smith, a 5-8 guard, with 11.4 points.
The Islanders hold a 12-1 edge in victories in the all-time women's basketball series with Sam Houston. The Kats' only win over the Islanders came in a non-conference tilt in 2003, 66-54 in Huntsville.
The Bearkats are 0-9 against TAMUCC since the Islanders joined the Southland. The Kats lost all three meetings in 2010, falling 76-69 in overtime in Huntsville, 81-80 in Corpus Christi and 99-79 in Katy in the first round of the Southland Conference post-season tournament
Both Martin and Thomas have earned Southland Conference "Player of the Week" honors this year. Martin earned her award after a 37-point output in a victory over Charleston Southland that came within one point of tying the school single game scoring mark.
Thomas garnered the honor after posting career highs of 18 rebounds and six blocks in the victory over UTSA..
Junior Khamra Echols and sophomore Clarke Davis complete the Bearkats' probable starting lineup. Echols ranks fourth in the Southland in assists this season with 4.4 per game.
Saturday is Montgomery County Day at Johnson Coliseum for women's basketball. Fans who can show proof of Montgomery County residence will be admitted to the contest for $1.
