Martin & Thomas Preseason All-League

Sam Houston State's Britni Martin and Sequeena Thomas are two of the 10 student-athletes who have been recognized today as preseason All-Southland Conference women's basketball selections for the coming 2012 season.
The preseason all-league team is selected by vote of the league's head coaches.
Seven universities are represented on the team, led by two selections from Lamar, McNeese State and Sam Houston State.
Martin, a junior from Conroe, Texas, is a first team selection.
The 6-0 forward helped the Bearkats post an 11-5 record in conference play, the most in Sam Houston history, and earn a share of the West Division title last season. Martin led the team in scoring (15.9) and was second on the team in rebounding (5.4).
Martin returns for her junior season ranked 16th in Sam Houston's women's basketball career scoring with 787 points.
Thomas was a second-team all-conference selection last year. The 6-1 forward ranked second in the conference in rebounding (10.3), fourth in blocks (1.6), eighth in scoring (14.6) and 14th in field goal percentage (.421).
Eight of the 10 players represented on the preseason teams were named all-conference following the 2010-11 season. Megan Herbert of Central Arkansas was the 2010-11 conference player of the year and McNeese State guard Ashlyn Baggett was the 2011 conference tournament most valuable player.
Sam Houston State guard Britni Martin and Lamar guard Kalis Loyd each earned first-team all-conference honors following last season.
The Bearkat women tip off the 2011-12 season with a preseason exhibition Tuesday night Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum
The regular season starts on Sunday when Sam Houston plays host to UT-Tyler at 3:30 p.m.
The goal for all 12 league teams will be to reach the 2012 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament which will return for its fifth season at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas, March 6-9.
