With five games remaining in the regular season schedule, the Bearkat women stand in first place in the West with an 8-3 conference mark and 14-11 overall record.
Hot on the Kats' tail is UTSA, one game back with a 7-4 Southland slate.
And facing Sam Houston are three of the top four teams in the East Division.
The "Murderer's Row" slate of games starts Saturday when the Bearkats play host to Central Arkansas in a 2 p.m. contest at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. UCA stands third in the East with a 7-4 Southland mark and 15-9 overall record.
Northwestern State, in fourth place in the East, is next on Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Natchitoches. Then on Saturday, Feb. 26, the Kats play host to East second place team Lamar.
"There's no question those are three tough games, but at this point of the season every game is important," head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols said. "I know it's a cliché but it's true. We have to take everything one game at a time. The way this young team has handled things to this point has been impressive. We have to keep that focus."
Central Arkansas brings the Southland's No. 2 scoring team and No. 2 defensive squad to Huntsville. The Bears are averaging 72.2 points per game and holding their opponents to 61.5.
Leading UCA is the league's top scorer and rebounder, Megan Herbert, who is averaging 17.4 points and 11.3 rebounds.
Sam Houston is led by three players who rank among the Southland's top scorers. Britni Martin is averaging 16.3 points, Sequeena Thomas 13.8 and Chanice Smith 11.5. Thomas leads the team under the boards with 9.4 rebounds per contest.
Saturday is the annual "Pink Out" game for Sam Houston women's basketball. Donations will be taken at the door and $10 "Pink Out" t-shirts will be on sale at the coliseum to support "Relay for Life" and WBCA Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
