The Lumberjacks ended Sam Houston's five-game winning streak when the pair last met on January 26 at Nacogdoches. SFA dominated the boards and out-shot the Kats in a 70-63 Jack win.
Besides getting even with SFA, the game also has important post-season implications for both teams and is the home season finale for the Sam Houston women.
Currently, UTSA leads the Southland West with a 10-4 conference mark. Sam Houston is in second in the division at 9-5 and SFA is a game back at 8-6.
A Lumberjack win would not only tie SHSU in the standings but give SFA the tiebreaker over the Kats in seeding for the Southland tournament in Katy next week. Current league standings would make Sam Houston the number four seed.
Also, with a 15-13 overall record, Sam Houston needs one more win to assure the women of their first above .500 season since 1996.
"That would be a tremendous accomplishment for this young group," head coach Brenda Nichols. "This has been a great year for us, but right now it's all about staying focused and getting the job done."
Wednesday's game matches the Southland's No. 3 and 4 scorers. Bearkat sophomore forward Britni Martin ranks third in the league with a 16.2 average this season. Martin led Sam Houston with 18 points in the loss at SFA last month.
SFA's Tammara Marion is the league's fourth-leading scorer with 15.7 points per game.
Following Wednesday's game, Sam Houston will end the 2011 regular season at Texas State with a 4 p.m. contest Saturday.
First round play at the State Farm Southland Conference Tournament in Katy begins Tuesday, March 8.
Tickets for both Sam Houston home athletic events and the State Farm Southland Conference Tournament are on sale now online.
Tournament session tickets are $18, plus a processing charge. The tickets will be available for purchase at the women's game on Wednesday night and the men's game on Saturday night.
