Martin and Thomas All-Southland

Martin is a first team selection on the 2011 all-league women's basketball team while Thomas was named to the second team. Both players are sophomores.
Martin is the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder for Kats in 2011. She was named as Southland "Player of the Week" November 26 and January 24.
Her Southland 2011 statistical rankings include No. 3 in scoring (16.2), No. 6 in assists (3.9), No. 9 in steals (2.0) and No. 20 in rebounds (5.4). In two season, Martin has climbed to No. 16 in Sam Houston career scoring with 781 points. She has produced double digit scoring games 40 times in her 58 career games.
"After sitting out last year, Britni has come on and been a great players for us," Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols said. "I really think the year off helped her develop in to a more mature basketball player."
Thomas is the second-leading scorer and top rebounder for the 2011 Bearkats and received Southland "Player of the Week" honors January 10. She has scored in double figures 23 times this season and posted 14 double figure rebound performances.
Thomas finished the 2011 regular season with double figure performances in both scoring and rebounding 13 times including a school record seven consecutive double-doubles.Her Southland 2011 statistical rankings include No. 2 in rebounds (9.9), No. 4 in blocks (1.6), No. 8 in scoring (14.3) and No. 13 in field goal pct. (.425).
"We are so proud of what Sequeena has done this year," Nichols said. "She stepped in and filled a spot for us and has been a big part of our success this year."
Sam Houston finished the regular season with a 17-13 overall record and an 11-5 Southland Conference mark. The Bearkat women are the No. 4 seed in the State Farm Southland Conference Tournament in Katy and will face No. 5 UTSA in the first round Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
