
Kats Win Southland Pop Tab Drive

Bearkat student-athletes collected 195.72 pounds of pop tabs from soft drink cans. The tabs will be turned over for recycling and the money with go to the Ronald McDonald House. The 2011 total broke the Bearkats' old record of 118.6 pounds set last year.
The total also earned Sam Houston the Southland Conference "Pop Tab Drive" championship with the Bearkats out-doing all other participating league members.

Bowling Team: .8 pounds Soccer Team: 5. Pounds
Football Team: 48.7 pounds Tennis Team: 8.4 pounds
Golf Team: 18.8 pounds Track Team: 1.8 pounds
Softball Team: 38.6 pounds Volleyball Team: 67.6 pounds
Trainers: 3.6 pounds
SHSU Total: 195.72 pounds
The "Pop Tab" drive is one of several community service projects Sam Houston student-athletes undertake to help the Huntsville and Greater Houston area.
Other projects included the Southland Conference "Twelve Days of Christmas" project, the Bearkat Mentor Program, designated driver team Program, Jump Rope for Heart, Read-a-thon, Athletic Department Trash Bash, Food Drive/Good Shepherd Mission, SAAFE House Program and the annual Dog Show for the Rita B. Huff Animal Shelter Fundraiser.
