
Nicholls Visits Saturday at 2 p.m.

Both the Bearkats and the Colonels stand 2-0 in league action. Sam Houston stands atop the Southland West Division after victories over UTSA and UT-Arlington. Nicholls leads in the East Division with wins over UT-Arlington and Northwestern State.
Nicholls is 9-6 for the year. After starting the season 2-5, the Colonels have won seven of their last eight.
Three Colonel players are averaging in double figures. Sumar Leslie, a 5-7 senior guard, is averaging 16.3 points and 5.7 rebounds to lead the squad. K K Babin, a 5-4 sophomore guard, and Alisha Allen, a 5-11 junior forward, both sport 14.5 scoring averages. Allen is the team's rebound leader with 6.9 boards per game.
Sam Houston brings a 7-6 season record and a three-game winning streak into Saturday's home game.
The Bearkats are led by a pair of junior All-Southland Conference performers who are making their mark on the Sam Houston State women's basketball record book.
Britni Martin stands 28 points away from becoming the 12th Sam Houston women's basketball player to score 1,000 career points. Averaging 14.2 points this season, The 6-0 Conroe product has totaled 972 career points in 72 games during her Bearkat career.
Sequeena Thomas, a 6-0 forward from Allentown, Pa., is the Kats' scoring and rebounding leader this season with averages of 14.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Thomas now ranks as Sam Houston's sixth all-time women's rebounder with a total of 507 rebounds.
Rounding out the Bearkat starting lineup are 6-3 freshman Angela Beadle, 5-9 junior Chanice Smith and 5-7 sophomore Jasmine Johnson. Smith is averaging 8.7 points while Johnson and Beadle both are adding 8.5 points per game.
Following the Nicholls game Saturday, the Bearkat women will head on the road, traveling to Texas State on Wednesday, Jan. 18 and to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Jan. 21. The next home women's basketball game will be Wednesday, Jan. 25, when the Kats play host to Stephen F. Austin.
