Martin named Player of the Week

Martin led Sam Houston State to two conference wins against Northwestern State and Lamar, keeping the Bearkats tied for the West Division lead at 10-4 with only two regular-season games remaining.
The Conroe High School product led Sam Houston in scoring in both games.
Against the Lady Demons, Martin scored 24 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and three steals. In the win against Lamar, Martin put together a 22-point, seven-rebound, two-assist and two-steal performance.
She now has 21 double-figure scoring games this season and 61 in her career.
In the two games this past week, Martin averaged 23.0 points on 60.0 percent shooting (15-for-25), including 62.5 shooting from 3-point range (10-for-16). With 1,213 career points, Martin ranks sixth all-time in the Sam Houston women's basketball scoring.
Martin's award marks the third time this season a Bearkat player has been recognized as Southland Conference women's basketball "Player of the Week." Junior forward Sequeena Thomas has earned the award twice this year.
Martin earned "Player of the Week" two times during the 2011 season. She was a first team All-Southland Conference selection as a sophomore last year. She also is a first team Academic All-Southland performer as well.
Sam Houston State will complete the regular season with a road game at Stephen F. Austin Wednesday night in Nacogdoches and a home game Saturday at 2 p.m. with Texas State.
