Martin is a first team selection while Thomas is a second team honoree. Martin was the runner-up to Megan Herbert of Central Arkansas in the league's "Player of the Year" voting.
Martin leads the Kats again in 2012, averaging 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists. The 6-0 junior forward has posted 23 double-figure scoring performances including a season best of 30 points on the road against Stephen F. Austin.
The Conroe High School product now stands No. 5 in SHSU women's career scoring (1,252), No. 2 in all-time three point baskets (222) and No. 8 in career assists (303). She has produced 63 career double-figure scoring games including four scoring performances of more than 30 points.
The kinesiology major who also is an Academic All-Southland selection, ranks third in the league in scoring (16.8), fifth in assists (3.8), leads the league three point field goals per game (2.7) and is third in free throw percentage (.816).
Martin's 465 points this season rank as the eighth highest single season scoring total in Bearkat women's basketball history. She stands No. 1 and 2 in single season three-pointers with 251 last season and 202 this year.
Martin has been named as Southland Conference women's basketball "Player of the Week" once this season and three times in the past two years.
Thomas is the Southland Conference leader in rebounds with 12.5 per game and stands 11th in the league in scoring with 14.4 points per contest this year.
Thomas has totaled both double figure points and rebounds in 17 games this season. The Allentown, Penn., product pulled down a career best 21 rebounds at SFA, the fourth highest single game rebound total in SHSU women's history.
Thomas has posted double figure rebound totals in 35 games during her Bearkat career. She has 19 double figure scoring games and 20 contests with double figure rebounds this year.
For her Bearkat career, she stands No. 4 in all-time rebounds (718), No. 14 in career scoring (991) and No. 2 in Kat career blocks (113).
Thomas has been named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week twice this season.
The 2012 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament will be played this week at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. Sam Houston begins action in the tournament against Texas State at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Four women's quarterfinal games will be played Tuesday beginning at noon with semifinal games Thursday at 12:05 p.m. and approximately 2:33 p.m. The championship game will be played Friday at 7:05 p.m.
The semifinals and championship game will be broadcast by the Southland Conference Television Network, SLC NOW, ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.com.
