Women open regular season at LSU Saturday

The Sam Houston women's basketball team opens its regular season schedule Saturday against LSU at the Pete Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La.
The Tigers dropped their season opener Friday, falling to Arkansas-Little Rock 70-54. Rie Hill led LSU with eight points and four rebounds.
The SHSU women defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 85-67 in an exhibition game last Saturday night at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Guards Taylor Dorsey scored 27 points and Amanda Barnes added 22 as the Sam Houston women's basketball team The Bearkats trailed by as many as 10 points early in the first half but rallied to take a 37-34 halftime lead. Sam Houston outscored the Crusaders 48-33 in the second period.
Shernise Robertson was the Kats' third leading scorer with eight points. Angela Delaney assisted on seven baskets.
The Bearkat women played Saturday without three key players who are sidelined with injuries including seniors Amanda Beadle and Jasmine Robinson.
Beadle is a preseason first team All-Southland Conference pick who currently ranks as SHSU's sixth all-time rebound leader (677 boards) and 17th all-time top scorer (858 career points).
“We're still a pretty young team. We're trying to rebuild right now,” Nichols said. “We've worked hard on defense. We want more 'umph' in that area.”
Tip time is slated for 3:30 p.m. The game will be carried online only by SEC Network Plus via www.WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app. Lyn Rollins and Victor Howell will serve as the announcing team.
