
Bearkat women travel to TCU Sunday

The Sam Houston State women's basketball team travels to Fort Worth Sunday to take on TCU in a 1 p.m. contest at the University Recreation center.
The Bearkat women enter Sunday's contest with a 1-7 overall record, with the lone win coming over Texas Southern (61-54). Since the win over the Tigers the SHSU women have fallen to Louisiana-Lafayette 65-46 and Prairie View 70-53.
TCU and Sam Houston State are meeting for the 16th time in their women's basketball series history. The pair have met each of the past seven years.
The Horned Frogs own an 11-4 all-time advantage since the first meeting between the Kats and TCU in 1980. The Frogs are 9-2 all-time against the SHSU women in Fort Worth.
Sam Houston is scoring 54.5 points per contest while shooting 36 percent from the field and 27 percent from 3-point range. Junior college transfer Shernise Robertson (16.1 ppg) and sophomore Taylor Dorsey (11.8 ppg) lead the Bearkats in scoring.
Also adding offense for Sam Houston are guard Amanda Barnes (7.5 ppg) and center Shadijah Moore (4.4 ppg). Moore and Dorsey lead the Kats on the boards with rebounding averages of 6.3 and 5.5, respectively.
TCU is led by Chelsea Prince who competed in her 100th-career contest on Dec. 13, surpassed the 1,200-point threshold in her last action and is currently stands eighth all-time TCU scoring with 1,201 points.
Another senior, Natalie Ventress, has averaged in double figures in scoring in each of her three seasons in the Purple and White. She looks to become just the second Horned Frog in program history to achieve the feat in all four years.
TCU stands 6-3 on the year. The Frogs own victories over Houston Baptist, ,SMU, Texas Southern, Missouri State, Lamar and Prairie View A&M.
Following Sunday's game, the Bearkats will break for Christmas and return to action Sunday, December 28 against the Shockers of Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas.
Sam Houston opens Southland Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 3, with a home game against Incarnate Word at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum
