156 Kats Earn Southland Academic Recognition

A total of 156 Sam Houston student-athletes have been named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for the 2013-14 sports season.
The league's Academic Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the conference and its member institutions.
The honor roll is released within 30 days at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, recognizing student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 grade point average (GPA) during the semester in which their sport's championship competition occurred.
Twenty-seven of the 156 Bearkats on the Commissioner's Honor Roll also were named Academic All-Southland Conference, recognizing their accomplishments on the field of play as well as in the classroom.
Sam Houston also had two individuals – Anthony Azar in baseball and Lygia Foreman in women's track and field – recognized as the Southland's “Student-Athlete of the Year” in their sport.
Since 2007, 17 Bearkats have earned Southland "Student-Athlete of the Year" a total of 20 times. Sam Houston student-athletes have earned Academic All-League selection a total of 730 times.
During the fall semester 31 Bearkats produced perfect 4.0 GPAs. Twenty-nine posted 4.0 marks in the spring semester.
Eighteen of those student-athletes produced perfect 4.0 GPAs during both semesters during the school year.
