The Sam Houston women's basketball team will look to bounce back from a tough loss Thursday night at Southeastern Louisiana when the Bearkats continue their South Louisiana road trip Saturday in New Orleans.
The SHSU women take on the New Orleans Privateers at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Down 15 points with six minutes to play Thursday night at Hammond, La., the Bearkats battled back to tie Southeastern Louisiana 76-76 with 11 seconds left to play.
Taylor Dorsey, who totaled a career best 27 points, made the game-tying bucket. But the Lions countered with a buzzer-beater for a 78-76 win.
Sam Houston enters Saturday's contest with a 1-2 record in league play and a 2-11 mark for the season. New Orleans is one of three Southland women's teams still looking for its first victory. The Privateers stand 2-9 for the season and 0-2 in conference action following losses to Lamar and Incarnate Word.
Two transfers, two sophomores and a true freshman comprise the Bearkats' young starting lineup. Shernise Robertson (14.5 ppg), a transfer guard from Tyler JC, leads Sam Houston in scoring. Her backcourt partner, sophomore Taylor Dorsey (12.6 ppg), also owns a double figure scoring average. Sophomore Morghen Day (5.8 ppg) starts at point guard.
Shadijah Moore (5.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg), a transfer from Shelton State JC in Alabama, and true freshman Saundra Guillory (4.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg) handle the Kats' inside game.
Jazmin Wiley (4.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg), Sam Houston's only fourth-year senior, is the team's first player off the bench.
Sam Houston will complete its schedule of games in Louisiana next week when the Bearkats travel to face Nicholls in Thibodaux on Thursday, January 15 before returning home to play host to McNeese State on Saturday, January 17.
