
Sam Houston falls at Abilene in 5 sets

Abilene Christian rallied from two sets to one down to hand Sam Houston a 13-25 25-20 25-27 28-26 15-12 Southland Conference volleyball loss on the road Saturday afternoon.
Four Bearkats totaled double figure kills as Madison Wallace led the team with 17. Taylor Cunningham added 15 kills while Brooke White and Jordan Vaughn posted 14 and 13, respectively.
Sam Houston held two-point leads three times in the fifth set, the last at 9-7 on a Wildcat error. ACU rallied with a 4-2 run to tie the stanza 11-11 then finished out the match with a 4-1 run.
Michelle Griffith assisted on 59 of Sam Houston's 67 kills. The Bearkats committed 37 errors in their 193 attacks for a .155 hitting percentage. Abilene Christian totaled 60 kills with 26 errors in 181 attackes for a .188 percentage.
Libero Claire Kilpatrick led the defense with 22 digs. Griffith added 16 digs. Wallace. White and Genung each had hands in a pair of blocks.
The Bearkats trailed once early, but closed out the first set with 14 kills in 37 attempts. The second set saw 13 ties and eight lead changes before the Wildcats took control. The third and fourth sets both were roller-coasters. In the third the two teams were tied 11 times while in the fourth they were deadlocked 16 occassions.
Samr Houston drops to 10 wins and 10 losses for the year and now have four victories and two defeats in Southland action.
Next up for the Bearkats is another road match in Beaumont with the Lamar Cardinals Tuesday at 7 p.m. Sam Houston begins a three-match home stand Saturday October 17 against Central Arkansas at 2 p.m.
