Shernise Robertson Earns Preseason League Honor

Shernise Robertson, who led both the Bearkat women's basketball team and the Southland Conference in scoring last year, has been named as a first team preseason all-league selection for 2015-16.
All 10 members return from last season's all-conference team to fill out the 2015-16 all-conference teams, the league announced Tuesday.
Robertson made an immediate impact on the league as a transfer from Tyler Junior College last year. The 5-6 guard from Cy Falls High School averaged 19.7 points per game for the year and posted a 22.1 scoring mean in conference play.
She led the Kats in scoring in 21 games and scored in double figures in all but three contests during the year.
Each of the first-team all-conference preseason selections are all in their final year of competition and all at the guard position. Joining Robertson on the team are JaMeisha Edwards from Lamar, Janelle Perez from Northwestern State, Allison Baggett from McNeese State and Shay Weaver from A&M-Corpus Christi.
“Shernise brings so much to this team,” head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols said. “We have some exciting young players joining the squad in the back court. We want to be more up-tempo this year and with the new guards mixing with Shernise its going to be exciting.”
Second team selections include Taylor Ross (Stephen F. Austin), Maggie Proffitt (Central Arkansas), Jayln Johnson (McNeese State), Brianna Mullins (Central Arkansas) and Suzzy Dimba (Abilene Christian).
The 2015-16 season begins Friday, Nov. 13, when 10 Southland teams take the floor. Conference play tips off Saturday, Jan. 2, 2015. The 2015 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament will return for its ninth season at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas, March 10-13.
