
Women's Basketball Inks Quartet of Top Players

Trinity Baptiste from Tampa, Fla.; Tia Harston from Killeen and Kiera McKinney from Amarillo Tascosa signed letters-of-intent to attend Sam Houston to complete the early signing period activity for the Bearkat women's basketball team.
The trio join Rachel Harrell who signed last week with the Kats.
Baptiste averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds for Hillsborough High School in Tampa, leading her team to a 28-3 record as a junior. She has scored more than 1,000 points in only two years for coach Babita Artabasy. She plays summer ball for Essence and is coached there by Kim Powell.
Harston helped lead Killeen to a 26-10 record as a junior, averaging 18 points, 4 steals and 6 assists per contest. She plays for coach Latisha Williams at Killeen and Fonzell Martin and Tommy Gregg in summer ball club Austin Elite – RFW.
McKinney produced averages of 12.9 points and 9.8 rebounds while helping lead Tascosa to a 20-10 record as a junior. She plays for coach Betsy Baughman at Tascosa and Johnna Pointer in summer ball for Hoop 10.
Harrell averaged 12.2 points and 4.1 rebounds for a 28-7 team last season at Brock High School, helping lead the team to the Texas 2A state championship. She plays for coach Chance Westmoreland at Brock High School and Marty Murphy in summer ball for the Texas Fire.
“We are so excited about signing each one of these players,” Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols said. “They are outstanding players and outstanding people who will fit in well with the student-athletes and the program we have here at Sam Houston.”
