Four seniors will be making their final home appearances as Bearkat women's basketball players Thursday when Sam Houston plays host to Central Arkansas at 6:30 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Jazmin Wiley, Jasmine Robinson, Salli Clavell and Summer Fife all will be honored in a special pre-game ceremony.
The contest itself is a vital one for the SHSU women as the team still is battling for one of the eight berths in the Southland Conference Tournament in Katy March 11-14.
Sam Houston is tied for eighth place with Houston Baptist, both with 5-9 Southland marks. The Kats host UCA at home then play their final three games on the road at A&M-Corpus Christi, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin. HBU has road games remaining at Abilene Christian, A&M-Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word and a home game left with SFA.
Last Saturday, Sam Houston and Central Arkansas battled down to the wire in a 66-63 Bearkat loss. The SHSU women trailed by as many as 23 point in the first half but battled back to have shots to take the lead in the final minute.
The four seniors that will be honored Thursday have combined to play in 226 games during the past four years. Two of the seniors were members of Sam Houston's 2013 Southland Conference championship squad.
Clavelle is a three-year letter-winner who will be making her 72nd appearance as a Bearkat. The New Orleans Karr High School product has totaled more than 760 minutes on the floor for Sam Houston.
Fife averaged 11.1 minutes per game in 24 appearances for the 2014 Bearkats. She came to Sam Houston as a transfer from Western Kentucky and red-shirted during the 2013 season. The former Fort Worth Liberty Christian High School star missed play this year due to injury.
Robinson came to Huntsville as a transfer from Jacksonville College and has played the last two seasons for the SHSU women. This year the 6-1 senior is averaging 16.2 minutes per game. Two weeks ago the Fort Worth Trimble Tech product posted a career best scoring performance at Houston Baptist.
Wiley, the only four-year letter winner among Thursday's senior honorees, is making her 116th appearance as a Bearkat. Wiley's career totals include 589 points and 428 rebounds. The former Fort Worth Dunbar star played in all 33 games during the Kats' 2013 championship season.
