
Bearkats split at Charleston Saturday

Brooke White led Sam Houston with 30 kills combined in two matches Saturday as the Kats lost in three to No. 23 ranked Minnesota Saturday morning and defeated Bryant in four sets at the College of Charleston Classic in the afternoon..
Minnesota won 25-15 25-13 25-11 to up its record for the season to 6-2. The Bearkats won over Bryant 23-25 25-21 25-20 25-20 to up its record to 6-7 for the year.
The Bearkats held an early lead in the second set but Minnesota jumped ahead quickly in each stanza. Sam Houston totaled 23 kills while their opponents chalked up 36 kills with only nine errors in 91 attempts.
Michelle Griffith assisted on 15 kills and totaled six digs. Breanna Homer and Claire Kilpatrick added eight and seven digs, respectively.
White totaled 19 kills in 45 attempts against Bryant. Shelby Genung added 10 kills. Griffith assisted on 43 of Sam Houston's 56 kills in the nightcap. Kilpatrick and Homer totaled 18 and 17 digs, respectively.
Sam Houston opens Southland Conference play Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Lamar at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The tournament represents the final non-conference matches on the schedule for Sam Houston. The Bearkats open Southland Conference action next Friday night at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum in a 6:30 p.m. match.
