Sam Houston State athletics has partnered with departments across campus to launch “Grow the Growl,” a new initiative to boost student attendance by offering giveaways at selected events including a $2,500 grand-prize scholarship courtesy of the College of Criminal Justice.
In order to be eligible for the grand prize, students must swipe in at all four fall events using their active Bearkat OneCard.
Grow the Growl begins on Sept. 15 at Sam Houston volleyball's 6:30 p.m. match against Texas State. The 200 rowdiest fans will receive beach balls, sponsored by Greek life.
At Bearkat football's Oct. 10 game against Incarnate Word, the athletic department will give away shirts to the first 200 students in attendance.
Sam Houston soccer gets into the action on Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. against Southeastern Louisiana, as Student Activities will be offering 300 pair of Hype Socks to the first 300 students in attendance.
The Kats close out the fall Grow the Growl with a select men's basketball game, which will be determined upon the squad's schedule release, sponsored by SHSU Online, who will provide rally towels.
Four dates will also be selected in the spring including women's basketball (sponsored by Mass. Comm.), a basketball doubleheader (sponsored by Rec Sports, Student Money Management and Bearkat OneCard), softball (sponsored by Student Legal Services) and baseball (SHSU Online) with another $2,500 scholarship up for grabs provided by the College of Criminal Justice.
