BEARKATS LOOK TO MAINTAIN SOUTHLAND MOMENTUM
Off to a 3-1 start in Southland Conference action, the Sam Houston women look to stay perfect in league play on their home floor at Johnson Coliseum. The Bearkats own victories over Incarnate Word on the road and Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans at home.
SAM HOUSTON HOSTS NICHOLLS
Sam Houston and Nicholls meet for the 52nd time in women's basketball Wednesday. The Bearkats lead the all-time series with 32 victories to the Colonels' 19 wins. Nicholls defeated Sam Houston 67-64 in the pair's only meeting last year in Thibodaux. The loss ended a six-game winning streak over Nicholls by the Sam Houston State women.
ONLY ONE TEAM WITHOUT A LOSS IN SOUTHLAND PLAY
Abilene Christian (2-0) is the only team in the league without at least one loss after the second weekend of Southland Conference women's basketball action. Sam Houston and Northwestern State both stand 3-1 while Central Arkansas, McNeese State and Lamar own 2-1 league records..

Angela Beadle scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead Sam Houston to a 64-52 women's basketball victory over New Orleans Saturday afternoon. Shernise Robertson and Kamry Orr each added 15 points as the Bearkats led for more than 21 minutes after trailing UNO for much of the first half.
SCOUTING REPORT ON NICHOLLS
LiAnn McCarthy, a 5-11 senior forward, and Cassidy Barrios, a 5-10 freshman guard, lead the Colonels with scoring averages of 10.4 and 10.0 points, respectively. Marina Lilly, a 6-3 junior center, is the team's top rebounder with 7.2 boards per game. Nicholls opened Southland action with a 69-59 home victory over preseason favorite Lamar but has lost to Houston Baptist and Abilene Christian in their last two outings.
SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE STATISTICS RANKINGS
For the second year in a row, Shernise Robertson is leading the Southland in scoring with a 16.9 average. Angela Beadle stands No. 14 in scoring (12.6) and No. 2 in rebounding (8.9). Robertson also ranks No. 13 in assists.
SAM HOUSTON IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Bearkat women posted a 4-6 record in the non-conference portion of their 2015-16 schedule. The victory total included a pair of road victories with the Kats defeating LIU-Brooklyn 63-56 in New York and Texas Southern 53-51 in Houston. Sam Houston posted home victories over Our Lady of the Lake and LSU-Alexandria.
ANGELA BEADLE MOVING UP
Senior center Angela Beadle has become the 15th Sam Houston women's basketball player to score 1,000 career points. Her career mark stands at 1,045 points. She is 10 points away from passing Cathy Hooks (1,054 points from 1979-80) in the standings.
The 2014 All-Southland Conference selection stands fourth in Bearkat women's career rebounding with a total of 808 boards and third in SHSU career blocked shots with 147.
SHERNISE ROBERTSON CLIMBS IN SCORING TOO
After leading the Southland Conference in scoring as a junior transfer in 2015, Shernise Robertson has climbed to 25th in Sam Houston career scoring with 768 points. Her career average of 18.8 points per game is tied as the best in Bearkat women's annals. Sam Houston Athletic Hall of Honor member Sherry Pfister averaged 18.8 points from 1980 to 1983. Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols averaged 17.8 points in her two seasons as a Bearkat from 1988 to 1989.
